Intersegmental Traction is designed to restore motion between the individual segments of your spine. You’ll lie on a padded table while internal rollers gently move along your back, creating a controlled stretching and mobilizing effect at multiple spinal levels at once. This passive movement helps reduce joint stiffness, encourages fluid exchange around discs and ligaments, and allows tight muscles to begin letting go. Because it works segment by segment, it can be an effective way to prepare the spine for chiropractic adjusting or follow up a treatment with soothing, rhythmic traction.

Benefits you may notice

Many people report easier bending and turning, less of that “stuck” or achy feeling in the spine, and a general sense of lightness and flexibility afterward. By gently mobilizing individual spinal segments and reducing muscle guarding, Intersegmental Traction can make daily activities more comfortable and help you tolerate stretching, exercise, and chiropractic care with less resistance. As with any therapy, results vary; your provider will adjust table settings and duration based on your comfort, condition, and goals.

What to expect during a visit

After a brief assessment, you’ll lie comfortably on the traction table, fully clothed. The rollers beneath the surface are positioned to match your spine and then set in motion at a speed and intensity that feels good to you. You’ll feel a smooth, rolling pressure that gently lifts and lowers different areas of your back—most patients find it calming and may even drift off. You’re in control the entire time and can ask to adjust or stop the treatment whenever needed. Sessions typically last about 10–15 minutes and may be followed by targeted exercises, posture or ergonomic guidance, or chiropractic adjusting to build on the motion and relief you’ve gained.
